Play Dough

This has been a time tested play dough recipe that we have used for years. It is very simple and inexpensive to make. It is very easy to mold and works perfectly in any of your playdough accessories.

Play dough is such a valuable part of learning for children, it is a soothing activity and helps to develop fine motor skills, strength in fingers, and pre-writing skills. It is great for developing social skills by sharing, taking turns and in conversation. It also helps in developing language concepts by talking about color, texture, weight and smell, it also gives emotional release through pulling, pushing and squeezing.

Ingredients:

* 2 cups flour

*1 cup salt

*2 tablespoons cream of tarter

*2 tablespoons oil

*2 cups water

*food coloring

Instructions:

Mix dry ingredients together. Add oil, water and food coloring and stir until smooth. Cook over medium heat until mixture thickens and sticks to the spoon. Dump the mixture onto the table and cool slightly until you can work it with your hands. Kneed it with your hands until it is nice and soft. Store in air tight container.

Suggestions: Add 1/2 tablespoon cinnamon for a wonderful smell,

also if you leave the dough it's natural color and divide it into 4 parts you can add the food color and kneed in. The colors are more vivid and bright. Make sure that the color is added in by an adult. Make an area in the center of the dough and drop in your color then fold in so that it meshes with the dough first, there's less chance it'll get all over your hands.

Have fun!!
